Retail supercenter Meijer has partnered with the Mayor's Louisville 2008 Host Committee to become presenting sponsor for The Cup Experience, a series of community-wide events and activities that will be held in the Louisville area during the Ryder Cup in September 2008. The official announcement came today at a news briefing held by Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson.
The Cup Experience merchandise currently is on sale at area Meijer stores.
"The Ryder Cup will draw visitors from around the country and around the world to Louisville. The Cup Experience will ensure that our citizens and our visitors have an opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities separate from the competition taking place at Valhalla Golf Club," Abramson said. "We applaud Meijer for leading the way and giving the Host Committee a major financial boost to develop The Cup Experience."
"Meijer is very pleased to support The Cup Experience," said Rob Beck, group vice president of operations for Meijer's southern region. "Meijer is a family company and we bring a tradition of community spirit to everything we do. Supporting The Cup Experience is a great fit for Meijer because it creates an opportunity for our customers and their families to celebrate and enjoy one of the premier sporting events in the world."
